1. Is Theta Phi Alpha a national sorority?
Yes, we are a member of the National Panhellenic Conference and we currently have 40 active chapters and 3 colonies (we'll have 7 this year!).

2. Are there any other sororities at Kean?
Yes, there is a list of them on our main page.

3. How do I join Theta Phi Alpha?
In order to be eligible for membership in any of the sororities at Kean, you must be at least a second-semester freshman and have a GPA of at least 2.0. Recruitment is held during the beginning of each semester, starting with an event called "Meet the Greeks." This is usually held in Downs Hall or near the rock garden, and it is an opportunity for Potential New Members(PNM) to meet the members of the various greek organizations. Each organization sets up a table and the members are available to answer any questions you may have. This is also when you will find out when each organizations' recruitment parties will be held.

4. Is it expensive to join a sorority?
Since we do not have a house, our dues are considerably less than other chapters who must cover various expenses that come with maintaining a house. We offer a payment plan to assist sisters in their financial obligations to the fraternity.

5. Why is Theta Phi Alpha a fraternity and not a sorority?
Technically, we are a women's fraternity. This is because the word "sorority" was not commonly used when we were founded in 1912. Many of the NPC sororities are actually women's fraternities.

6. Do you haze? Will I be humiliated and/or have to do anything dangerous/embarassing if I decide to pledge?
Absolutely not! Theta Phi Alpha has a very strict anti-hazing policy. Your time as a Pledge Sister should be enjoyable and spent learning about yourself, the sorority, and your new sisters. Our "My Sister, My Friend" Pledge Sister education program will ensure that you will never have to do anything you are not comfortable doing. If you have any more questions, please e-mail us.
